Bauer Media’s Radio Events Team is a RoARing Success

Bauer Media’s Scottish Radio Events team has picked up a prestigious accolade for its outstanding work on the Rock Against Racism (RoAR) events, in conjunction with the Scottish Government.

The team was awarded the Sales Pitch Niche (under £250K) title at the glitzy 2008 Media Week Awards on 30th October, held in London’s Grosvenor House.

Not only was the team up against stiff competition from the likes of Times Media, MEN Media, Viacom Brand Solutions and Carlton Screen Advertising, it was the only Scottish nominee for the evening, making it an even bigger triumph for the company.

The Rock Against Racism (RoAR) events, which were part of the Scottish Government’s anti-racism One Scotland campaign, successfully managed to target and fully catch the attention of youngsters in the understanding of racism.

Four exclusive music events took place across Scotland, featuring performances and backing from Amy Macdonald, The Zutons, Hard-Fi and Scouting For Girls. The artists performed at the gigs completely free of charge thanks to the work of the events team.

Representing the team was Siobhán Crampsey, who is Head of Events at Bauer Media’s radio division and daughter of the late Bob Crampsey, a broadcasting legend who spent 14 years at Radio Clyde. She said:

“We’re over the moon at winning this fantastic award for our work on the Scottish Government’s One Scotland campaign, especially as we were the only Scottish team nominated at the entire event.

“RoAR was such an inspiring project to work on and it really captured the imagination of our stations, our listeners and the Scottish press.

“Importantly, it has also had strong backing from the music industry in London. Over the past two years, we’ve had 10 of the biggest chart acts lend their voices to the RoAR campaign. We can’t thank everyone enough for their support”.

The tough judging panel was impressed by the project’s success in creating awareness of racism in Scotland and the extensive media coverage it achieved, giving a well-above target return on investment.

Bauer Media’s radio division is Scotland’s biggest commercial radio group and owns Radio Clyde, Radio Forth, West Sound, South West Sound, MFR, Radio Borders, Radio Tay and Northsound, as well as 11 other stations across Northern England and Ireland.

Roger Williams, Head of Marketing and New Media at the Scottish Government, said:

“We’d like to congratulate the Radio Events Team at Bauer Media on their award for the fantastic work on RoAR. The team did an excellent job from start to finish, with One Scotland’s key campaign messages at its heart.”
