Calling all rock chicks – music video site Muzu and Kerrang! Radio have joined forces to discover the greatest unsigned female musicians.
The search coincides with the cinema release of The Runaways on 10th September, which tells the story of the all-girl rock band of the same name.
The best unsigned female band, solo artist or front woman will win the chance to record a session at Muzu’s Dublin studio, which will be simulcast online at Muzu.tv and www.KerrangRadio.co.uk and played on Kerrang! Radio’s digital radio station, as well as perform live at a Kerrang! event.
Performers can upload a recording of themselves at www.muzu.tv/therunaways. Ten entries will be shortlisted with the final winner selected by a panel of judges, including Kerrang! Radio DJ Alex Baker.
The competition is open now and will run until midnight on 30th August and will be promoted across Muzu.tv and Kerrang! Radio.
Ciaran Bollard of Muzu said: “As the first all-girl rock band The Runaways remain an iconic chapter in rock’s history, so the release of the movie is the perfect chance to recapture that spirit in a new generation of female musicians. This competition is all about supporting the huge amount of undiscovered female talent out there, and giving these musicians the exposure they deserve.”
The Runaways stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, two teenage girls who formed the heart and soul of this seminal all-girl band of the 1970’s. Under the influence of rock impresario, Kim Fowley, they quickly earned a name for themselves with their unique style and raw talent, storming to success and becoming one of the most iconic bands of their generation.
