Cool FM's Cash for Kids presented a cheque for a massive £100,000 to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children today.
These funds were raised as part of a unique three day event which saw the top line up of Cool FM's popular presenters making waves at the hospital, giving listeners the chance to hear first-hand about the worthy work that goes on behind the scenes.
Cash raised from the event, was presented to Dr. Paul Jackson Trustee of the 'Helping Hand' official charity to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and will be used to fund vital new equipment, develop new facilities for the hospital, give extra support to sick children being cared for in the community and provide funding for specialist research and training - All of which will make a difference to the lives of thousands of youngsters and their families across the province.
Darren Fowler, Charity Manager at Cool FM's Cash for Kids, said:
"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone that contributed. From those who gave us whatever change they had in their pockets to those who signed up to be Cash for Kids 'Champions'.
"Donations were made in lots of different ways. A local supermarket chain came in with a bucket full of money which they'd collected on the day. Staff & customers alike from many businesses throughout the province all pulled together to make this one of the most significant donations Cash for Kids has ever made, everyone who supported the campaign should feel very proud of their contribution"
Dr Jackson Helping Hand Board of trustees commented:
"Play in hospital is a normal activity for the child in what can be a frightening and stressful environment. We provide familiar play activities to make the child feel more at home, developmental play for babies and children with complex needs and therapeutic play to prepare children for Theatre or procedures or to explain about their illness, using specially adapted materials."
"We were delighted to receive this very generous donation today. Toys and games consoles not only develop hand eye coordination and fine motor skills, but also encourages imagination and creativity and is an extremely useful tool in the hospital situation."
Darren Fowler, Charity Manager at Cool FM's Cash for Kids, concluded:
"The results proved that people in Northern Ireland really do have big hearts and we're delighted with the significant sum raised. Well done to everyone who pledged - your money will make a difference to the little lives of those who need it the most."
