Dara O'Briain to Host the Jameson Empire Awards

Top comedian Dara O Briain will return for a second year to host this year’s Jameson Empire Awards, which will take place on Sunday March 28 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The popular host of BBC’s Mock The Week is currently on his massive 150-date UK and Ireland tour but will take a couple of days off to front the 15th star-studded Empire Awards.  “I am really looking forward to hosting the Jameson Empire Awards again. I loved doing it last year and really enjoy doing events for the movie industry as it's always a pleasure being the least beautiful person in the room.”

Last year’s Jameson Empire Awards welcomed a host of celebrated actors and directors including Russell Crowe, Viggo Mortensen, Gerard Butler, Mark Strong, Helena Bonham Carter, Cillian Murphy, Michael Sheen, Guy Ritchie, Danny Boyle, Tim Burton and Paul Greengrass. The Dark Knight dominated the evening, winning Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor, with Heath Ledger being honoured with a Special Commemoration. Russell Crowe was crowned Actor Of Empire’s Lifetime.

Mark Dinning, Empire’s Editor, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have Dara – one of the funniest hosts ever – back on board hosting the Jameson Empire Awards this year. The past 12 months have been a groundbreaking time for movies and for Empire, and we can’t wait to celebrate that in style come March 28.”

The nominations for the 2010 Jameson Empire Awards will be announced on February 26 2010.

This year’s Awards also welcomes the return of the hugely popular amateur film-making competition Done In 60 Seconds, and for the first time the competition is open to budding filmmakers from overseas.

All entries have now been submitted and the public are now starting to vote for their favourite ‘Done in 60 seconds’ film. Voting will close on March 12 and then the UK’s top five finalists will join 15 international finalists to be judged by a super-panel comprising Empire Editor Mark Dinning, actor Jason Isaacs and director Edgar Wright. The resulting top five will then be invited to the Awards itself, but only one can win the coveted prize.
