Key 103 hosted the latest in the series of ‘PM Direct’ Q&A events this week, which saw the station field a strong local audience, plus gaining national TV, print and online news coverage.
The event saw over 100 Manchester people attend from a wide range of sectors including the arts, commerce, NHS, small business and education who gathered to pose their questions direct to the Premier. In an unusual move, none of the attendees present were asked to pre-submit any of the questions they intended to ask. The station team conducted voxpops with the audience as they left the venue, and streamed live tweets as the questions came thick and fast.
In advance of the event, David Cameron also spoke to Key 103’s Paul Lockitt, for an exclusive on air interview and discussed his plans for a clampdown on benefits cheats, the new coalition Government and his thoughts on Martin O’Neill’s resignation as Aston Villa Manager.
During the hour long audience Q&A session - which involved the PM fielding questions from the audience himself - David Cameron thanked Key 103 for hosting the event, and was questioned about a wide rage of business and social issues, including his stance on the deficit and plans to tackle this, benefits, regional development and green policies, public spending, support for parents with disabled children and how the new coalition Government planned to tackle the gap between the rich and the poor.
Mr Cameron also expressed his belief that a great city should have “a great and visible leader” to drive investment, and revealed that his government will be legislating to encourage more city mayors.
David Cameron was welcomed at the event by North West Regional Managing Director, Steve King, who commented: “Our event gave the people of Manchester a rare chance to get up close and personal with our country’s Prime Minister and ask him about the issues that matter to them most. We were thrilled to have been asked to help set up the event and give, what would be for most people, a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet with the country’s leader.”
