Prime Minister Backs Metro Radio’s £1million Work Campaign

Local radio station Metro Radio has launched a campaign to help generate £1million worth of jobs across the region. Show presenters will be appealing for local employers to inform them of any vacancies they currently have which will then be mentioned for free on air and posted on the station's website and facebook pages.

With 393,000 people tuning in each and every week it is hoped that any of these listeners that are out of work will quickly fill any of the available positions.

"With unemployment levels across our region currently running at 10% we feel that as the local radio we should play our part in getting people back into work. Having the ability to reach hundreds of thousands of people through our on air shows, the website and our facebook page we expect businesses to see this as a golden opportunity, and for us to swiftly reach the £1million part before the end of January", said station Regional Managing Director Sally Aitchison.

Prime Minister David Cameron was informed of this worthy campaign and commented: "I think it's a great campaign. Your efforts and your campaign to say to businesses, large and small, 'see what you can do to take on someone else; see what you can do to grow your business' is great. This has got to be a year of growth and of enterprise and I absolutely applaud your station for what you're doing".

Labour leader Ed Miliband is also backing the initiative: "The North East has huge, huge talent and huge, huge potential. I know that from my many visits to the region and I know with campaigns like this that whatever the government at Westminster is doing, you can actually fight against the odds. So, that's why I congratulate this campaign."

Any business wishing to promote a vacancy should simply email details of the position to jobs@metroradio.co.uk. All positions will be posted on-line and listeners looking for work will be signposted to this bulletin board to find a suitable position. Presenters will also be highlighting roles across their shows so the station are encouraging anyone who is seeking work to be tuned in from Monday morning to keep up-to-date with all the opportunities. Employers will also be asked to keep the station informed of any successful candidates so they can share the successes with listeners throughout January.
