RAJARs Q4 2009

Our investment in key brands and great programming has continued to pay dividends with another solid RAJAR for the Bauer Radio Network. Overall, Bauer Media reaches 12.2 million listeners every week and is the commercial leader in 22 out of the 25 markets we serve.

Magic

The Magic Network now reaches 3.4 million listeners across the UK every week, with 24.5 million listening hours.

Magic 105.4, offering ‘more music, less talk’, has maintained its number one position in London as the most listened to commercial station. With an audience of 1.8m, its hours have grown to the market leading position of 12.4m.

In addition, new figures show that 36% of the Magic audience does not listen to any other commercial radio. This provides both a unique audience for advertisers, and a strong base from which to fight the BBC.

Steve Parkinson, MD of Bauer Radio London said: “I’m especially pleased that Magic’s share is number one again. The mix of great music and ‘Mystery Voices’ has locked listeners in for longer which is the name of the game. And with Ronan just started, and £100,000 up for grabs by one lucky listener, Magic is in a great place."

Kiss

The Kiss Network continues its success with rises in reach, share and hours on the year. Kiss now reaches 3.4 million adults across the UK every week with 18.4 million listening hours. Kiss 101 rises to the most listened to station in its TSA.

Kiss 100, London’s dance music station, continues to increase its audience and now has over 1.6 million listeners tuning in (up 1.6% yoy). Special take over shows by celebrity Kiss fans such as Lewis Hamilton bolstered audiences to ensure market dominance of 15 -24, 15-34 and 15-44 year olds in London – against all other radio including the BBC.

Rickie & Melvin’s flagship breakfast show continues to be a highlight in the Kiss 100 line up with increased reach on the quarter, with 668,000 people now listening every morning.

Big City Network

Our Big City Network of local stations reaches 4.4 million listeners across Scotland, England and NI every week with 40 million listening hours. Big City continues to reach more listeners in its TSA than both Radio 1 or Radio 2. Cool FM celebrates 20 years of broadcasting with some exceptional results, increasing its reach 16% on the quarter and outperforming Radio 1. Other strong performances were celebrated at Rock, MFR, CFM and TFM. Particular mention also has to go to Forth 1 in Edinburgh which achieved its highest share since 2000.

The Bauer Radio Network continues to lead the way in digital radio with heat, Q, The Hits and Smash Hits all in the top 10 digital only stations, The Hits remains the most listened to digital station in the UK. Over the last year, investment in heat radio has resulted in an increase of 62% in listening hours over the year. The Kerrang! Network now reaches 1.2 million adults across the UK every week with 5.8 million listening hours.
