Some of Scotland's best known musician and comedians will take to the stage in Glasgow's iconic Barrowland Ballroom as The Big Gig launches this year's Cash for Kids campaign.
Backed by some legendary names from the Scottish music industry including Jim Diamond and Midge Ure, the evening of entertainment will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for music and comedy fans to see their idols like never before while helping vulnerable children across Glasgow and the West.
The Gathering - a consortium of musicians including John Kane, bass guitarist for The Proclaimers, Brian McPhee, guitarist with the Silencers, Marianne Faithfull, Greg Kane of Hue & Cry and Tommy Cunningham will also perform.
Comedians taking the stage include Janey Godley, Teddy, Sajjad Chaudry, Rab Brown, Caroline Robertson, Barry McDonald, Martin McCoy, Graeme Thomas, Jim Park, Gerry McDade, John Gavin, Martin Bearne and John Ross.
The Big Gig was the idea of former Wet Wet Wet drummer, Tommy Cunningham, who was inspired to put together a one off event after performing at the Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 Cash for Kids lunches last December.
He said: "For over 30 years, Cash for Kids has been making a difference to the lives of vulnerable children. I really wanted to do something special to launch the 2011 campaign. It's such a special appeal that when you pick up the phone and ask people to be involved with Cash for Kids they're always happy to be involved.
"Given that we have iconic Scottish artists involved it seemed logical to host the event at the Barrowland Ballroom which is renowned as one of Glasgow's most legendary music venues. Nothing would keep me from being on that stage with so many brilliant artists doing their bit for an incredible charity."
"As comedy is the new rock n roll it is fantastic that so many comedians are also joining the line up including Janey Godley and Scottish Variety Award Winner 2011 Teddy. It certainly will be a night to remember!"
Sharon Taylor, charity manager of Cash for Kids, said: "We are thrilled that so many artists are giving their time to launch our appeal at this unique event.
"With 1 in 4 children living in poverty across Glasgow and the West and the current economic climate driving a rise in grant applications we need to do all we can to meet the needs of children who really need our help. Cash for Kids has therefore decided to raise funds all year round to meet this demand. The Big Gig will be a great night for a great cause."
