Mental Health & Wellbeing

Bauer Media has a strong reputation for taking mental health and wellbeing seriously. We’re proud to support initiatives across our entire business from our internal programmes and courses to our consumer facing campaigns and initiatives.

Launched in 2018, our ‘Where’s Your Head At?’ (WYHA) campaign strove to ensure parity between the way mental and physical health are treated in workplaces and colleges. Across our 105 brands we campaigned to make mental health first aid a legal requirement – garnering over 200,000 signatures to a petition we delivered to parliament. We secured a change to workplace and mental health guidelines and continue to use our voice to put a spotlight on the need for a seismic change in society when it comes to our openness, understanding, and support for mental health.

Of course, campaigning for change needs to be supported with action, and here at Bauer Media we aim to lead by example. Not only do we have over 70 trained Mental Health First Aiders across our business, but the Bauer Academy also provides training, support, and guidance on wellbeing practice to our people.

As part of this, we provide Wellbeing Huddles where Bauer’s people learn support mechanisms from leading Counselling Psychologist and Wellbeing Practitioner Dr Pauline Bell. These informal huddles provide a relaxed place for people to gain new ways to improve their own wellbeing practice and techniques for helping others.

As we emerge from the pandemic we have been working on extending these sessions to external companies to maximise the reach and opportunity to benefit from such important discussions. Topics span everything from cultivating optimism and personal resilience, to gratitude practices, mindfulness and calm, as well as tips for recognising and managing anxiety and depression.

On top of this, we recently announced that our Academy will run a ‘WYHA Wellbeing Ambassador’ programme. Course attendees can develop their understanding of mental health, receiving practical insights and techniques for supporting others, with the aim of fostering wellbeing in the workplace.

The course, alongside many of our wellbeing sessions, will be delivered by Dr Pauline Bell, a highly experienced Health Care & Professions Council registered Counselling Psychologist working in the NHS, private and third sectors.

We’re always looking for new ways to support mental health and open up conversations. Some other things we’ve been up to include:
