What our people say

Anna Fitzjohn

Tell us a bit about you:

I love gaming: which is anything computer games, board games, card games, arcade games or escape rooms! I love to spend time with my family and going home for long weekends by the sea – a board game, a glass of wine and sea view is my happiest of situations!

What does your role entail?

My role is quite varied, which I love. I project manage and over see a lot of our community projects for the Bauer Academy. I bid for funding to get new and exciting projects up and running helping to provide creative industries training to a wide range of people, helping to give them the skills to get their dream jobs.

I also help with all of our government compliance, being an apprenticeship training provider means there are a ton of rules to follow and paperwork to complete – I am very used to being in front of a spreadsheet and an auditor!

Tell us a bit about how you came to join Bauer Media?

I spent 8 years working for a sector skills council for the creative industries, I started out running projects for people wanting to get into radio and realised I could work in the creative industries in a non-creative role helping people get their dream jobs. When I met the Bauer Academy through one of my projects I knew that it was the place I wanted to work. The people are amazing, and we make real change, bringing industry and education together. My teams passion and drive is extraordinary and I was hugely lucky when I was able to come in and run a flagship project, Making Creativity Work.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Coffee! Nothing starts before the coffee, but that is the main constant to my day! I have a hugely varied job where I could be taking a potential partner for coffee, writing a new bid or completing reports to current funders. I will check in with my team who run This is Me: Creative London, checking that everything is going well or if they need any support on anything from finding work experience placements to mentors from internal teams.

Why do you love working at Bauer?

I love my team, they make this a great place to work. But I also love that Bauer has the Bauer Academy and puts a lot into supporting us and our work, it is so important that employers are engaged with helping people gain the right skills and experience to be able to get the jobs they want and to fill the gaps the employer has. Without companies like Bauer Media, there would be fewer opportunities for people who don’t have access to the standard ways in to the industry.

What are you proudest of in your time at Bauer?

Making Creativity Work was such a huge success with the amount of people we were able to provide free training to and help get their foot in the door of the industry. I am incredibly proud of this project and that it led to us winning funding to run This is Me: Creative London which is helping 100 young Londoners receive an amazing opportunity at Bauer.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to join Bauer?

I was a bit scared to join such a big company after working for small charities for most of my career, but it is a wonderful community and you can always find your place.
