What our people say

Jonathan Andrews

Tell us a bit about you:

I’m a passionate advocate for equal access to the workplace and have spoken about my own experiences in this area to help others achieve. I spend a lot of my time outside work on advocacy, such as being co-chair of the London Bi Network and the Commonwealth Children and Youth Disability Network. It’s not all work, though - I’m a big fan of long walks and make sure to make time for friends regularly.

What does your role entail?

As a solicitor, I deal with legal issues that come in – these might be in relation to, e.g., terms and conditions around radio or online competitions, or contract drafting relating to a new corporate deal. It’s a very interesting role and requires a lot of analysis and thinking.

Tell us a bit about how you came to join Bauer Media?

I’m actually an external representative on Belonging at Bauer – I work at Reed Smith, a law firm which Bauer is a client of (and which is a great supporter of diversity and inclusion), but was a previous secondee to Bauer when I was a trainee solicitor. I really enjoyed my time there and was thrilled to be asked to remain on the forum to continue working with the team.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Incredibly varied, given the wide range of work involved in media law and the clients we work for. But never boring!

Why do you love working at Bauer?

I love staying involved with Bauer because of the chance to continue to help the company on its diversity journey. As a trainee in the legal team, I loved the diversity of the work and the responsibility I was given.

What are you proudest of in your time at Bauer?

That’s got to be being one of the first members of Belonging at Bauer – I was only a secondee for six months but I’m proud to have played a key part in setting up an initiative and honoured to be asked to remain a key part of it.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to join Bauer?

Don’t try to fit yourself into a box – think about what makes you stand out, and the personality traits and skills (whether creative of technical) you can bring to the role.
