Bauer Media Continue to Innovate by Evolving Angling Times

Bauer Media to reinvent the format of Angling Times from newspaper to magazine format

Title responds to audience-specific research by evolving format of product

Bauer Media has announced changes to its specialist publication, Angling Times – the UK’s market-leading angling publication. From today, the title will follow a magazine format rather than its previous newspaper format.

Founded 63 years ago, Angling Times is the longest-running specialist consumer publication in the UK. These changes have been a direct result of in-depth research by Bauer Media, looking at how different audiences respond to different layouts.

Audience research has shown the new format has been received positively – with 84% of surveyed readers preferring the change. This is because it is more convenient for anglers in terms of portability and delivers a better reading experience – therefore providing readers with better value for money.

Bauer Media first tested this with Garden News in 2013. Since changing from a tabloid format to A4, Garden News has blossomed to become the UK’s leading weekly gardening title. It has proved that considered product change can reinvigorate newsstand sales.

Rob Munro-Hall, Group Managing Director Bauer Magazine Media, said: “Angling Times is Bauer Media’s oldest magazine with 63 years of heritage behind it. From our research and long-standing relationship with the title’s audience, we know what the market wants. We know that magazines are still viewed as a trusted source, with the Angling Times as the go-to source for anglers. The title continues to innovate with an evolving format to ensure it remains at the centre of the fishing community.”

The Angling Times will continue to be available in all major retailers for £1.99 and is available to order at http://www.greatmagazines.co.uk/angling-times.
