Manic Street Preachers, George Ezra and Blossoms announced for special Absolute Radio 10th birthday gig

Manic Street Preachers, George Ezra and Blossoms have been announced for a special Absolute Radio gig this September. Celebrating ten years of the station, the artists will perform at the iconic O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London to 2,000 lucky fans.

Manic Street Preachers are undeniably one of Britain’s most treasured bands. With 10 million albums sold worldwide and the winners of 8 Q Awards and 4 BRITS, the Manics are back performing a set of their countless hits. With the recent success of a No.1 single and No. 1 album, George Ezra has been dominating the summer airwaves. ‘Shotgun’ has arguably been the anthem of the summer and this show comes ahead of a headline gig for the singer at London’s Wembley Arena later this year. Straight out of Stockport, Blossoms are making their mark as one England’s biggest new indie bands. The band have gone from strength to strength, with their second studio album ‘Cool Like You’ reaching No.1 on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and a subsequent sold out UK tour in Autumn 2018.

Dave Berry – who announced the gig on his Breakfast Show this morning – said: “It’s Absolute Radio’s 10th Birthday, so it’s only fitting we throw the biggest and best party for our listeners. The Manics are in charge of organising the magician, George is overseeing the decorations and Blossoms are getting the party bags. I’m chuffed to be hosting the gig, and it’s going to be a great night of live music to celebrate ten years of Absolute Radio!”

Absolute Radio has pioneered the commercial radio industry, being the first station to create one breakfast show with seven playlists and the first UK radio station to allow listeners to hear fewer adverts and more music through a free account. It is the first to re-brand a whole station to celebrate the birthday of one of its presenters, comedian Frank Skinner and is the only station to be the subject of a BBC News at Ten ‘bong’ when David Cameron swore (twice) live on the breakfast show. Absolute has also exclusively hosted the first gigs in the Houses of Parliament and the crypt of St. Paul’s Cathedral for Biffy Clyro and Elbow.

Absolute Radio was born in September 2008 and as the home of Dave Berry, Frank Skinner and Jason Manford, is the place where “Real Music Matters”. The station will be announcing further activity around this year’s special 10th birthday this September – keep listening to Absolute Radio on FM, DAB, your voice-activated devices, digital TV, mobile apps or online at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.
