Bauer Media launches new Graduate Scheme in memory of editor Kevin Green

Bauer Media, home to media brands including Motor Cycle News, CAR, Angling Times and Today’s Golfer, has launched a new graduate scheme, based at its Peterborough offices

The Kevin Green Graduate Scheme has been created in memory of the former editor of Improve Your Coarse Fishing (IYCF).  It aims to attract and develop the very brightest young media talent, giving them invaluable experience working on some of the UK’s leading media brands, learning from top industry experts over a 12 month period.

Kevin, who passed away in June 2013, was one of the most well-known and loved journalists in the angling world. He spent 19 years working for Emap and Bauer Media, including spells on Angling Times and as editor of IYCF.  He was a talented coach, whether imparting his angling skills to IYCF readers and viewers of the TV shows, which he presented, or developing his talented editorial team.

The scheme is now up and running with its first two successful entrants, Josh Kelsall, graduate writer for Land Rover Owner International, and Elizabeth Jones, graduate designer for Top Santé.  Josh and Elizabeth were selected from hundreds of applicants.

Josh and Elizabeth will spend the next 12 months working at Bauer, gaining in-depth experience in their chosen fields.  Their learning takes the form of ‘on the job’ development, weekly team meetings, classroom training and regular meetings with Bauer mentors.

Josh comments:

‘I feel immensely proud to have joined a world-renowned publishing giant so soon after graduating from John Moores University in Liverpool this summer.

‘Bauer have given me a wonderful opportunity to gain vital experience whilst earning and making a real contribution but crucially, building a professional portfolio.  I intend to cram as much as possible in to the next 12 months!’

Elizabeth adds:

‘I graduated from the University of Reading, completing a graphic design and typography course and have always wanted to pursue a career in magazine publishing.  I now have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, challenging and friendly environment, where I can thrive and learn from professionals across the publishing industry.’
