Planet Rock turns 18
Planet Rock turns 18 years old today. To celebrate this momentous occasion, a number of special on air surprises have been arranged by the Planet Rock team.
They have dug deep into the rock archives and will be playing the biggest nostalgic clips every hour from the most memorable moments of the last 18 years, featuring Mick Jagger, Brian May and Brian Johnson. Rock legends and friends of the station such as Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, Bill Bailey and Rick Wakeman will be giving out their own unique birthday messages. Plus the opening piece of audio from the first ever show will be rebroadcast nearly two decades later.
Listeners will be requesting songs all day long, and one lucky person will be announced as the winner of a massive £18,000 prize.
Ric Blaxill, Content Director of Planet Rock is proud the station is celebrating such a big birthday; “I can’t believe Planet Rock is turning 18, there have been so many amazing moments from having Alice Cooper, Joe Elliott and Brian Johnson on as presenters to broadcasting live from Jimi Hendrix’s London home and covering the launch of the Pink Floyd V&A exhibition. It’s been a pleasure to be the home of rock for such a long time.”
