Absolute Radio commissions in-house documentaries for Autumn/Winter 2018

Following the success of its debut series of documentaries, Absolute Radio has commissioned a further five programmes for autumn/winter 2018. There will be five episodes, including one for Absolute Radio’s 10th birthday, all produced by in-house talent from Bauer’s One Golden Square.

Demonstrating the station’s ongoing commitment to growing the next generation of radio documentary makers, everyone at Bauer Radio’s One Golden Square was given the chance to submit ideas and pitch for budget for the documentaries which will air across the Absolute Radio Network.

Paul Sylvester, Absolute Radio Content Director said, “From the Sound of Protest to Vinyl Revival and Pitch Perfect, our first Absolute Radio stories series was a resounding success. With more than 20 exciting pitches for the second series, we’re increasing investment in the programmes. It’s really important to me that we protect the craft of long-form storytelling on commercial radio and this is a great way to develop our already talented team whether they work on Absolute Radio, Magic, Kiss, Planet Rock or in the wider Bauer Radio business”

Details for the documentaries are as follows (broadcast dates to be announced):

The Devil’s Music, produced by Nick Harris

We all know how important the Beatles, the Stones and Zeppelin are in the story of music, but who do we have to thank for inspiring them?

The 27 Club, produced by Dan Benedictus

A look at the famous cabal of musicians who died tragically young and all at 27: Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse.

It Takes Two, produced by Tom Cotton

From The Beatles to The Stones, song-writing collaborations have always been behind some of our favourite tracks? Absolute Radio examines these collaborations by catching up with artists and their song writing partners to delve into the complex relationship and the process behind writing a hit.

First Impressions, produced by Leigh Meyer

The phrase “One Hit Wonder” is used as an insult, but we should change that. This programme is an homage to those who managed to hook us in with one great track, even if the follow music up never quite received the same reaction.

Access All Areas, produced by James Street

From tiny pub gigs to playing festival and stadium headline shows, Absolute Radio’s favourite artists talk about the journey from a few blokes in a bar to a sold-out arena. We hear about the joy, the pain, the adulation, the loneliness and life in a bunk on bus.

In addition to on-air broadcast, these documentaries will be available to listen on-demand at www.absoluteradio.co.uk as well on the Absolute Radio mobile listen app.
