Anthea Turner and Alexis Ffrench Join Scala Radio Line-Up

With just two weeks to go until the launch of classical entertainment radio station Scala Radio, Anthea Turner and composer Alexis Ffrench, Luci Holland, comedian Faye Treacy and Hannah Cox have been signed alongside Simon Mayo, Goldie and Mark Kermode to the presenter line-up.

Bringing together familiar masters along with fresh and exciting new classical pieces, Scala Radio will be presented with an informal ‘come as you are’ attitude. The station will feature special guests, intriguing mini-series’, and shows about classical music in popular gaming and mindfulness.

Scala Radio weekends will see Anthea Turner join the line-up as she re-unites with friend Chris Rogers for a Sunday Brunch show.

With over 100 million streams on Spotify, pianist and composer Alexis Ffrench will present a show set to take listeners on a journey with the music that influenced him, from neo-classical and ‘the piano chill zone’ to rebel composers. In a show entitled ‘Music in Motion’, expect everything from Chopin to Shostakovich and Beach Boys to Beastie Boys as he looks at the relationship between classical and contemporary styles.

Also joining the line-up is award-winning comedian and trombonist Faye Treacy, Edinburgh-based composer, arranger and sound artist Luci Holland for a show on music in video gaming, and Hannah Cox.

On launch week – the first voice that listeners will hear at 10am on 4th March will be a familiar one; Simon Mayo – with an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary music, listener requests and confessions with a classical twist, along with special guest and fellow Scala Radio presenter conversations.

Listeners can also immerse themselves in one of Britain’s most prestigious orchestras as Jack Pepper curates four shows delving into the recording archive of London’s finest instrumentalists. Scala Radio Spotlight: The London Symphony Orchestra. For the first show, Jack explores the history of the orchestra, and listeners can expect to hear music by Holst, Tiomkin, Elgar and Berlioz.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Anthea Turner said, “Music and conversation are two of the greatest things in life, so it’ll be such a pleasure to bring weekend playfulness to Scala Radio each Sunday”.

Steve Parkinson, Group Managing Director, National Radio Bauer Media comments, “Scala Radio is reflective of modern life and the place classical music has within it – we are excited for the station to launch on the 4th of March and this varied line-up of presenters to bring it to life”.
