Paul Gambaccini to bring America’s Greatest Hits to Greatest Hits Radio
Janice Long to also join the station’s weekend line-up, that includes Pat Sharp and Darren Proctor
Paul Gambaccini is to bring back his much-loved show, ‘America’s Greatest Hits’ to a brand-new home on Greatest Hits Radio.
The respected broadcaster first launched the show in 1975, playing the greatest hits that made it big in America. Having since launched an enviable radio career and been inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame, Paul’s unrivalled music knowledge and instantly recognisable voice has brought him a legion of loyal fans.
Paul’s ‘most personal and rewarding show’ makes a welcome return to the airwaves this Saturday 15th February. Airing every Saturday on 5-7pm, it is perfectly placed on Greatest Hits Radio which is home to the biggest songs of the 70, 80s and 90s.
Also joining Paul on the weekends will be fellow celebrated BBC Radio presenter, Janice Long. The broadcaster, whose career has included presenting Top of the Pops, will entertain listeners live from her hometown of Liverpool, every Saturday afternoon from 1-4pm.
On joining the station, Paul Gambaccini said “I give three cheers for joining Greatest Hits Radio with AMERICA’S GREATEST HITS. First, I get to bring my most personal and most rewarding show back to national radio. Second, I am honoured to be on the same day’s schedule as two radio legends who have been friends for decades, Pat Sharp and Janice Long. Third, I join a network that believes as fervently in the value and permanence of radio as I do. Hip, hip, hooray!”
Janice Long said “I can’t wait to start playing the greatest hits on a Saturday afternoon right across the country from my home city of Liverpool. And being me, you can be sure I will be digging deep to find some classics that you haven’t heard in ages and that we helped make famous the first time around”
Andy Ashton, Content Director for Greatest Hits Radio Network said “Weekends on Greatest Hits Radio are the ultimate good times! As the home of the biggest songs of the 70s, 80s and 90s, we are thrilled to appoint these radio heavyweights who have helped shape the soundtrack of many of our lives and look forward to welcoming them to the station this weekend.”
Elsewhere on the weekend schedule, presenter Pat Sharp has announced that he’ll present a second show across the weekend. Currently hosting a show every Saturday from 10am-1pm, he’ll do a second show at the same time very Sunday. Later on in the day, listeners can tune into ‘Now That’s What I Call a Chart Show’ hosted by Mark Goodier. Each week Mark counts down the greatest hits from two amazing years of music.
Greatest Hits Radio launched in early 2019 as an upbeat, authentic, fun and entertaining new format where ‘Good Times Sound Like This’. Available on DAB digital radio across the UK, the station is also available on FM in Liverpool and the West Midlands. For more information and to listen online, go to greatesthitsradio.co.uk.
