Piers Morgan voted heat Magazine’s most popular ‘Secret Crush’ for second year running

The controversial Good Morning Britain presenter topped heat magazine’s annual poll which is published to coincide with Valentine’s Day and celebrates our affection for men of all ages, shapes, sizes and aesthetics.

Piers triumphed again by a country mile, even gathering more votes than the top five runners up combined. His closest rival was Prince Harry, who shot on to the list in second place, and beat brother Prince William who only made number 22. Netflix series YOU’s murderous character Joe Golberg, played by actor Penn Badgley, took the third spot, and four times previous Secret Crush champion, EastEnders actor Jake Wood, jumped back up into fifth place.

Piers will perhaps be most pleased to have trounced his rival ITV hosts, This Morning’s ‘silver fox’ Phillip Schofield at 13, and Eamonn Holmes at 19. Piers will be equally satisfied that his long time feuding pal The Apprentice’s Lord Sugar could only manage to scrape onto the bottom of the list at 25.

This year’s list sees many new Secret Crushes, with recent Dracula star Claes Bang in at four, Prime Minister Boris Johnson making his debut in sixth place, and Scottish Grammy Award winner Lewis Capaldi landing at number seven. Elsewhere on the list, Greatest Hits Radio presenter Pat Sharp, famous for his iconic 80s mullet, is voted in at number 12, just behind rising star KISS Breakfast Show presenter Tom Green at 11. Former winner Jeremy Clarkson remains the 16th Secret Crush, while 7ft glamazonian drag queen RuPaul sashays in for the first time at 17. TV Presenter duo Ant and Dec both slide down this year’s list from 6th place to 24 and 3rd place to 10th respectively.

Commenting on his second victory Piers said:  “It makes me feel insufferably smug, but I congratulate, as ever, heat magazine’s very discerning readership on working out where truly great aesthetic and character quality lies. I do feel like this could be the birth of a really long and extended reign.”

On what he thought his unique selling point was Piers added: “Honestly, I think it’s because the entire country is now infested with weak snowflakes and women in particular are now getting drawn to what they see as the antidote to that. I stand up for common sense, I don’t wear papooses, I’m not a vegan, I don’t think James Bond should be a woman or gender fluid. I think a lot of women – and I’m not ruling out an extensive male vote too – but a lot of women see what used to be called a “real man”… but you can’t even use that phrase anymore because that offends people.”

On how thrilled he was to his runner-up being Prince Harry, he laughed: “Oh Meghan you made such a mistake. That is really going to compound his hellish start to the year. He’s had to leave the country, and give up everything that he likes in life, and now he’s lost out to me in Secret Crush. Meghan’s going to be sitting there going, “Damn it, have I picked the wrong one?”

On where he will be keeping his two awards Piers revealed:  “I’m keeping one in London but I’m taking the other to Hollywood and I’ll put it in the bar of my Beverly Hills home. It can go next to my Emmy which I won last year. To me it’s right up there with the Emmy. Lots of people win Emmys but very few people have won your Secret Crush award. I’m humbled – which is not a state I normally find myself in – that heat magazine readers have once again given me this award, I’m touched by the support, but I can’t say I’m surprised.”

heat Editor Julia Davis commented:  “Congratulations again to Piers and his raw animal magnetism for his landslide victory.  He’s certainly a one off and just shows that if you love yourself enough, then eventually others will follow.  Our sympathies lie with both his wife Celia and co-presenter Susanna for having to deal with a new level of obnoxious glee.”
