Sister Bliss, the musical force behind chart-topping group Faithless, has signed up for a new five part series on Scala Radio, launching on 1^st September.

In the new series, Sister Bliss will be bringing the eclectic spirit of Ibiza to the airwaves, playing classical music alongside flamenco, ambient and house. Broadcast every Sunday between 1-3pm, the show’s hand-picked playlists will reveal Sister Bliss’ long-held love of classical music and how it’s inspired her own successful career.

As one of the founding members of dance act Faithless – which scored numerous hits including ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God is a DJ’ – Sister Bliss is one of the UK’s leading female DJs. And while Faithless are much celebrated in the electronic music world, with three No.1 albums and more than 15 million records sold, many may be unaware that Sister Bliss is a classically trained musician.

Having attended the prestigious Royal College of Music, the London native is an accomplished pianist, who can also play the violin, saxophone, and bass guitar. A gifted composer, she has written music for film, TV and theatre. Credits include Danny Boyleʼs ‘The Beach’ and ITV dramas ‘Life Begins’ and ‘The Poison Tree’. She has also composed music for productions including Eugene O’Neill’s ‘The Emperor Jones’ and Hanif Kureishi’s ‘The Black Album’ at The National Theatre in London, as well as an original piece for the London Sinfonietta.

Each show on Scala Radio will feature a unique and fresh musical mix, as Sister Bliss shares a sonically rich palette of her favourite traditional classical pieces, mixed in with electronica and dreamy chill out music. Expect everything from Debussy, Fauré, Grieg, Bartók, Puccini, Vaughan Williams and Bulgarian choral music, alongside tracks by Four Tet, Kate Bush, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Wendy Carlos, Steve Reich, and Anne Dudley. Plus she’ll be showcasing newer sounds by current classical-electronica artists like Nau Leone, and Brandt Brauer Frick – as well as playing the odd Faithless track, of course.

Each week, Sister Bliss will also feature her special ‘Blissed Out Moment ‘as the show draws to a close, when she plays a longer piece to kick back to, picked either from her own record collection or by the audience.

Speaking ahead of the news series, Sister Bliss said: “The show aims to be a window into the music that I find inspiring and beautiful. It’s a less explored side of me and I’ll be taking the audience on the journey of discovery with me, as I also seek out new music to enjoy.

“It’s about breaking down the musical barriers. I want to join the musical dots. I want to share classical music for the modern era.”

Faithless Presents Sister Bliss on Scala Radio broadcasts on Sundays at 1pm, with another chance to listen on Tuesdays at 7pm.
