The Spotlight shows play host to artists who have grown alongside the festival who are now taking their own international lead across the charts. Lewis Capaldi has been revealed as the first Spotlight show for 2019, taking place at Brighton’s Dome and presented by The Great Escape and The Box Plus Network. It’s been a whirlwind year for vocal powerhouse Lewis Capaldi, who performed at The Great Escape as a rising star in May 2018. Following self-released single ‘Bruises’ which rapidly reached over 25 million streams on Spotify claiming the most-ever plays from an unsigned artist – Capaldi has yet to stop impressing the world, receiving a prestigious nomination for BRIT’s Critic Choice. Clash comment that “he seems able to find the beauty in the everyday, to translate deeply personal experiences into something universal.”
Capaldi said, “Absolutely over the moon to come back and play The Great Escape this year! Had an amazing show last time and hopefully things will be the same this time around!”
Matt Rennie, MD of The Box Plus Network said, “Having worked with The Great Escape for a few years now, it’s safe to say that it’s become one of our annual editorial highlights and a great opportunity to take our new music brand, Box Fresh to the fans. To work with a festival who are dedicated to new artists is refreshing, relevant and rewarding. The fact we have someone with as much talent as Lewis on the spotlight stage at The Great Escape, along with all the other amazing artists there, is testament to the vibrancy of UK industry right now!”
