The first round votes have been counted. Now it’s time to reveal which TV favourites will be stepping onto the red carpet at The Dorchester on Monday 4th September, as the shortlist for the TV Choice Awards 2017 is unveiled.
This year we welcome a new host, Pointless star Richard Osman, who’ll take charge of our prize giving ceremony. And once the trophies have been handed out, the stars of British TV will be celebrating their wins into the small hours.
Not surprisingly there are some big hitters in our Best Drama Series category. The BBC dominates, with Line of Duty, Our Girl and Poldark in the running. However ITV’s Broadchurch has triumphed twice, will it win again with its third and final series?
Best New Drama sees a real battle royal, as Netflix’s The Crown takes on Victoria. And ITV have got to be in with a good chance of clinching a win, with The Good Karma Hospital and Little Boy Blue completing the line-up.
While much-loved shows make it on to the shortlist year after year, it’s always good to see new arrivals on our list of nominees. This year MasterChef will be taking on former winners Britain’s Got Talent, The Great British Bake Off and Strictly Come Dancing in our Best Talent Show category, while the emotional rollercoaster that is Long Lost Family vies for the Best Lifestyle Show prize.
As ever the action in soapland has been nonstop and the nation’s favourite stars will be hoping to scoop acting honours on the night. Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale are all represented in the Newcomer and Soap Actress categories and are joined by Hollyoaks in the Best Soap category. When it comes to Best Soap Actor, Emmerdale can boast three contenders, in the form of Ryan Hawley, John Middleton and Danny Miller. But will the other Danny – EastEnders’ Mr Dyer - have the last laugh?
Whoever triumphs on the night, you can be sure that showbiz’s most watched stars and major players will be there when the TV Choice Awards are handed out at The Dorchester on Monday 4th September.
