Joining the Absolute Radio family in October 2017, Berry currently hosts the Hometime show (weekdays 4-7pm) – interviewing the likes of Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Lawrence, Muse and Will Ferrell, as well as hosting the station’s exclusive gigs with Liam Gallagher and Rag‘n’Bone Man.
The award-winning radio host began his career presenting music programmes and live festival coverage for MTV, ITV and Channel 4. Last year saw Berry celebrate ten years on the radio, and today’s news marks a return to early starts for the talented broadcaster.
Dave Berry said: “I am overjoyed to have been offered the opportunity to host Breakfast and the chance to wake up the nation. We are already developing some exciting ideas for the show, and I can’t wait for our listeners to discover what we have up our sleeves.”
Absolute Radio Content Director Paul Sylvester said “Dave is one of Britain’s best breakfast broadcasters and from our first conversation we were always clear that he was the natural successor. Dave has a unique charm, intelligence and humour. He also perfectly understands the ingredients of how to make the perfect breakfast show.”
Berry will be joined in the mornings by his current co-host Matt Dyson, as well as existing news and sports presenters, Emma Jones and Glenn Moore. On top of having the biggest guests and greatest gigs, the Breakfast Show will continue to be one programme with the choice of seven different playlists. Broadcast across the network of seven Absolute Radio stations (including Absolute 80s, 90s and Classic Rock), it is the only live radio programme where listeners can choose the music to suit their tastes, while enjoying interacting with the show’s entertaining speech content.
Today’s announcement follows the news that current breakfast show host Christian O’Connell is emigrating with his family to Australia after 12 years on the station. Richie Firth, who currently sits alongside Christian in Breakfast, will host his own show on mid-mornings on Absolute 80s. Meanwhile, Pete Donaldson will be looking after Hometime throughout the summer.
