Tell us a bit about you:

I’m 40 years old, married to Duncan and proud mum to a gorgeous 3 year old boy called Ellis. I live in Falkirk with them both (and 2 Siamese cats) after moving home from London. I’ve been in radio for over 20 years and was once fiercely ambitious in my career! However my entire world now revolves around my family after fighting for a long time to become a mum.

What does your role entail?

I look after all of Bauer Media’s radio stations in Scotland and after an extremely bunch of talented presenters, producers and content directors. As a team, we basically try and create the best content that we can for our audiences. We spend our days trying to be creative and coming up with fun ideas to put on the radio! I feel super lucky that I get to spend my day doing something creative! In addition to this, I’m always out looking for new presenters to add to the team.

Tell us a bit about how you came to join Bauer Media?

I’ve been in radio for such a long time now and feel like I’ve worked for every single radio group! Before my current job I was the Radio 1 Breakfast Show Producer working alongside Nick Grimshaw. After having Ellis, I decided to take a career break after my maternity leave – just to take time to enjoy parenthood. I was always asked what my next job would be. Would I go back to the BBC? Would I return to my roots and commercial radio? I always believed that I would know the right job when I saw it and then in 2018 I was invited to do some consultancy work for Hits Radio. I made sure that I was very open with the management team to say that being a mum always came first and that I would need flexible working. That’s one of the major reasons that I decided I wanted to work for Bauer Media. The fact that they respect me as a parent and as a Content Development Director. I don’t always do my job in office hours –I fit it around my family life.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day normally starts at 7am when I get into one of our stations. I like to be in early so that I can sit and fully engage myself in the breakfast shows. A lovely quiet office is perfect for listening to the radio! Then I spend most of my days catching up with teams to try and come up with some cool ideas – how can we be more ambitious and exciting?! A huge part of my job is out meeting people so im often out networking to find the next generation of cool, creative types. Then I leave at 3.30pm to head home and start mum duties. This is so important for me as I get a few hours with my son before bedtime.

Why do you love working at Bauer?

I love being part of Bauer because they accept me for who I am. I don’t have to pretend that I live a single life with no responsibilities. They accept that sometimes I need to work from home to look after a poorly toddler. They trust me. This in turn makes me want to try even harder in my job each day. I’m also really passionate about diversity and inclusion and the company also supports me as I strive to make Bauer Media in Scotland even more inclusive.

What are you proudest of in your time at Bauer?

I’m really proud that I managed to sign some top talent from another network within my first month working for the company. I’m fiercely ambitious sometimes and I always like to make sure that we have the best possible people working with me.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to join Bauer?

DO IT! We’re a really lovely team! Bauer will treat you with respect which sadly isn’t always the case in some companies. They will see you as a person and not just a number. Just make sure you bring some big ideas with you.
