Olly Alexander Wins Actor of the Year in Heat Magazine’s Annual Unmissables Awards

Olly Alexander has won Actor of the Year in heat magazine’s annual end of year Unmissables entertainment awards.

The Years And Years singer picked up the accolade for his critically acclaimed role as the fabulously hedonistic, soulful young Ritchie in It’s A Sin.

Celebrating a double victory, Russell T Davies’s It’s A Sin also won TV Drama of the Year. The stunningly powerful saga of young people devastated by Aids in the 1980s had a massive impact on the many millions who watched it.

Davies told heat, “Thank you for this – it means so much. I’ve been making dramas for 30 years now and I don’t think anything will mean as much as this one – because of the people we lost, the people who survived, the people who fought and anyone who’s ever given money to this cause or helped in any way, it’s so amazing to have a chance to recognise that. On behalf of everyone, thank you very much. I’m delighted”.

Runners-up in the category included Line Of Duty (BBC1), Mare Of Easttown (Sky Atlantic/NOW), Succession (Sky Atlantic/NOW) and The White Lotus (Sky Atlantic/NOW).

Elsewhere Daisy Haggard won Actress of the Year for Back To Life and Breeders. Daisy not only ran through all the emotions in her portrayal of mother of two Ally in the superb second season of raw parenting comedy Breeders, she also dazzled in the second series of her own bittersweet show Back To Life.

Rose and Giovanni’s silent dance on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing is the TV Moment of the Year. The breath-taking routine when Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice’s danced to the soundtrack of Clean Bandit’s Symphony became instantly iconic. Rose and Giovanni commented, Thank you so much to Heat for this award, we are very grateful. This dance meant so much to us and we are so proud that we could show a glimpse into Rose’s world and represent the deaf community in this way. We will both remember this “unmissable moment” forever.”
