Magic Radio Launches Magic Soul Summer

Magic Radio will continue to build on its growing network of brand extensions with the launch of ‘Magic Soul Summer’, a brand new pop-up digital station featuring ‘The Best of Soul and Motown’. It will be the first station broadcasting across the UK dedicated to Soul and will be live from 4th July, showcasing songs from the likes of Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and John Legend.
The station will draw on the experience and Soul knowledge of presenter Angie Greaves who has interviewed the likes of Martha Reeves, The O’Jays, Lionel Richie, Gregory Porter, The Four Tops and The Temptations amongst many others for her Saturday night Soul Town programme on Magic Radio. The station will also feature presenter Martin Collins who has long been a part of the Soul music scene, playing at events such as the Caister Soul Weekender and hosting a number of Soul radio shows. The schedule promises back to back classics from the purple period of Soul, driven by Motown, Stax and Philadelphia Soul through the 60s, 70s and 80s with a sprinkling of contemporary artists such as Alicia Keys and Beyoncé who pay homage to the greats.
Group Content Director Magic Radio Tony Moorey said “Soul and Motown music transcends generations and has an incredibly special place in the hearts of the Magic audience. Digital Radio is a great enabler of choice and allows us to create pop-up stations like this that really broaden our appeal to listeners’.”
Magic Soul Summer will replace the networks’ first pop-up installation, Magic ABBA in association with MAMMA MIA! which launched early May. The brand continues to build momentum off the back of the launch of their two new national digital stations Mellow Magic and Magic Chilled with Patsy Kensit and John Hannah playing Timeless Relaxing Classics on the former and Jade Ewen hosting daytimes on the latter. Elsewhere new signing Mel Giedroyc is the host of Saturday lunchtimes on Magic Radio.
Magic Soul Summer will go live on the 4th July, available on DAB Digital Radio in London, Birmingham, Teesside, Tyne & Wear, Humberside, Leeds, Edinburgh, Northern Ireland, Tayside, Inverness and across the UK at magic.co.uk and on the Magic App for iPhone, iPad and Android. There will also be a bespoke web page at www.magic.co.uk.
In order to listen to Magic Soul Summer on DAB Digital Radio, listeners will need to re-tune their radios. For more information on how to do this, head to www.getdigitalradio.com/retune.
