Say hello to Rayo…and its radio stars

Celebrating the launch of Bauer’s brand-new audio platform, Rayo, at Radiocentre’s Tuning In event, Bauer showcased the platform’s brilliant stations and hosts. Bauer’s Chief Creative Content Officer for Podcasts, Lucie Cave, led a panel discussion on how Rayo can bring listeners even closer to the music, shows, and radio they love. The panel included Martin Kemp from Greatest Hits Radio, Hits Radio presenter Fleur East, and KISS Radio breakfast show duo, Jordan and Perri.

Talking about the presenters’ personal connection to radio and how the platform has shaped their careers, Martin said hearing Spandau Ballet on the radio for the first time was a ‘great and surreal feeling’. He also reminisced about the days when you had to sit with a tape recorder, waiting to record the top 30 hits on the radio – an experience that makes the new Rayo app feel worlds apart.

When asked about their relationship with radio, Jordan mentioned that the ‘immediate connection with the listeners’ struck the KISS presenters the most, adding that their shared radio experience has been a whirlwind.

Rayo gives listeners access to over 50 stations, curated playlists, and a variety of on-demand content. When asked what station they would tune besides their own, Fleur mentioned that she would tune into Greatest Hits Radio, being a big fan of the playlist, while Martin noted KISS – shooting a playful look towards the Diversity duo.

Asked if there were any on air moments that stood out, Fleur recalled when Coldplay stopped by the Hits Radio studio, telling the band that her favourite track was ‘Human Heart’.  To her surprise, Chris Martin asked her to join them on stage at Shepherd’s Bush Empire to sing the song with them.

To wrap up the session, Lucie asked some quick-fire questions to the group as they responded with ‘Ray-yo’ or ‘Ray-no’. Is it ok to sing along to your own song as it plays on the radio? It’s a Ray-no from Fleur. Is it ok to ask an A-lister to film a TikTok dance with you? A big Ray-no from Jordan & Perri (unless it’s Ed Sheeran). Should you download the new Rayo app, home to all the things you love? ‘I know this much is true’, it’s definitely a ‘Ray-yo’!

You can say hello to Rayo today by downloading the free app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
