What Our People Say

We think Bauer Media is a great place to do great work for everyone, but don’t take our word for it.

Here, some of our amazing people tell us about their careers and what they love about working at Bauer.

David Robertson, Regional Content Director

My career started ‘by accident’ after I won a competition on the Clyde 1 website. When collecting my prize, a skateboard which still sits under my desk to this day, I met some of the producers and presenters at the station. I was still at School at the time but as someone who wasn’t particularly academic, I wanted to experience on the job work in an industry I was passionate about, so it was perfect ‘in’ to ask about work experience opportunities. Soon after, I started answering the phones on Superscoreboard (our football show) at the weekends.

Since then, I have worked in virtually every department, but found my niche in the programming team, starting out as a producer before being promoted to lead the content team in 2016. Bauer has been excellent in supporting and developing my career through the years; I’ve learned lots from fellow colleagues, but also the Bauer Academy. I completed the Effective Leadership course in 2018 and still use techniques and skills learned from the course to support me in my current role as Regional Content Director for the West of Scotland, Hits Radio Network. I can honestly say that working for Bauer has been fantastic, not only are we home to some of the best radio brands in the world, but we’re also home to some of the most passionate, creative and hard-working people who pull together to make great things happen.

Victoria Easton-Riley, Content Director Bauer Media Scotland

I look after all of Bauer Media’s radio stations in Scotland and after an extremely bunch of talented presenters, producers and content directors. As a team, we basically try and create the best content that we can for our audiences. We spend our days trying to be creative and coming up with fun ideas to put on the radio. I feel super lucky that I get to spend my day doing something creative!

I love being part of Bauer because they accept me for who I am. I don’t have to pretend that I live a single life with no responsibilities. They trust me. This in turn makes me want to try even harder in my job each day. I’m also really passionate about diversity and inclusion and the company also supports me as I strive to make Bauer Media in Scotland even more inclusive.

Gary Stein, Group Programme Director, Hits Radio Brand

Growing up in Scotland my dream job was always to work in radio, and I feel incredibly lucky to still be doing that  job many years later, working alongside a brilliant, passionate, and talented team who share the same love for music, people and radio which makes every day absolutely worth it. Our mission is to make our listeners lives sound better, and myself and the team are empowered to do that here at Bauer every day, programming our radio stations, working with our on air and off air teams, and picking the songs that get them through their days.

What makes Bauer a great place to do great work, is simple, the culture, which is in everyone’s DNA. Everyone’s voice counts, ideas come from our teams, and we crave different opinions from different voices. This is a culture that allows you to make a difference, especially in the areas that really matter. It might be bringing incredible talent onto our airwaves, a new idea for a radio station, or creating opportunities to  make our programming teams more representative of our audiences whether that be our women in programming initiative or the launch of Hits Radio Pride a station aimed at the UK’s LGBTQ+ population. For anyone thinking of a career at Bauer, I could think of nowhere else I’d rather be.

Anu Short, Group Business Director, Lifestyle Magazines

I work in the commercial department on the Publishing team managing the TV’s and Real Life weekly magazines and have responsibility for the Agency Sales Team and the Entertainment hub (Heat, Empire and Mojo). We are the ambassadors for some of the best magazine brands Bauer owns… TV Choice, Take A Break, heat, Empire to name a few. Over my time at Bauer, I’ve worked on 5 magazine launches, taken 2 maternity leaves, 1 redundancy in 2015 and was lucky enough to come back to Bauer in 2017 to the job that I do now.

I love working at Bauer because the people and culture are second to none! The culture is what kept me at Bauer for 18 years and brought me back in 2017. And anyone that works here will always say it’s the people that make this company so special. I have genuinely always felt like I belong here, am encouraged to have a voice and am still learning new things from the teams I work with. I’m proud to work for a company where diversity and inclusion is valued, and I can celebrate my ethnicity and be myself.

Nasif Ikram, Account Executive

Bauer truly is a brilliant place to work. Upon seeking employment during my final year at university, I was mainly on the lookout for an organisation where you can belong and thrive – Bauer matches both of these to a tee. Having been at Bauer for just over a year now, working in Sales has resulted in myself gaining an extensive amount of exposure across our Market leading brands in a short period of time. This started from working on projects across our Outdoor publications; Trout & Salmon, and Country Walking, to then working on our Gardening Portfolio which covered; Garden News and Garden Answers – selling print and social advertising. I have recently moved over from Publications and over to the events side of the business, currently working on Rail Live which is one of our annual events for the Rail industry.

No two days are the same, and although I have the day ahead planned, there will more often than not be something unexpected thrown at me which adds to the excitement and buzz of working within Sales at Bauer. The teams that I have had the pleasure of being a part of have always been extremely supportive and have played a huge part in my journey thus far, here at Bauer. Your efforts and performance are always recognised and rewarded, and the Commercial team at Bauer will always share and celebrate your success with you.

Emma Rogers, Key Account Director

I knew for a long time that Bauer seemed like a great place to work, through word of mouth I heard that it was lots of fun. The most important thing I learnt was that the Bauer values aligned with my own. I was already working in media but wanted to develop and take on a new challenge. I reached out to the Commercial director on B2B and told her I wanted a job and that I could sell whatever she needed me to, four years later I am selling advertising to key players within the automotive industry.

I love how Bauer has given me the opportunity to grow and develop not only as a salesperson but as an individual, working for Bauer encourages me to be brave. The future always feels bright at Bauer, with so many developmental opportunities ready for taking. The culture and diversity excites me and I continually look forward to the future.

Kyle Jakubowska, Junior Designer

I joined Bauer in 2020, after graduating Uni, through the 6-month Kickstart internship. After the internship, I was delighted to be offered a job as a designer with Bauer Academy and to progress onto the Junior Content Producer apprenticeship, which builds upon what I’ve learned during Kickstart. What I love about working in a media company and doing my apprenticeship is being able to collaborate with loads of creative people and having access to all the different departments. I learned so many new things about radio, content production and publishing, and I feel that by working here I stepped outside of my comfort zone. I get opportunities to get involved with the wider organisation and to challenge myself creatively, so my confidence has grown a lot. I also learned to respond to feedback, which positively impacts my personal and working life.

The thing that I’m the proudest of is getting involved with the LGBTQ+ Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, for which I was nominated for the Kickstart Awards. I worked with the comms team and Cash for Kids to try and help embed the LGBTQ+ inclusion into the wider business, and I’m very happy that I got a chance to be involved in shaping the company’s culture.

Olivia Mounsor, Newsdesk Editor

I started at Bauer just under a year ago – I’d graduated my Masters in 2020 and really struggled to get the work experience needed to begin my career. Since starting, I’ve been made part of the team and really welcomed in. I’ve had lots of training opportunities, through the central Skillsgate modules, and also more specific to my job role. It’s helped shape my decision making by being able to work collaboratively across different news teams and regions. There’s a wealth of experience circulating the news department, ranging from individuals with years working in the industry, to people with excellent local knowledge. Within the last year we’ve covered a range of huge national stories, but also local ones with just a huge impact.
