Absolute Radio brings listeners rockstar dreams to life by forming ‘The Band of Mum & Dad’
Absolute Radio has made the dreams of six of its listeners come true after bringing them together to form a band, recording a song and playing it on the station to an audience of over 5 Million people.
Named ‘The Band of Mum & Dad’, this has been a rock ‘n’ roll project six weeks in the making, with Absolute Radio Breakfast host Dave Berry and his team giving mums and dads that used to play in bands in their younger years the chance to play again.
Listeners seeking to relive their dreams and record in an Absolute Radio studio where the likes of Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Kings of Leon, Florence and the Machine and The 1975 have all performed, submitted videos to as part of an audition process that ran across the Breakfast show.
Six lucky listeners secured their place in the band: Phil Knight (Drummer), Darren Richardson (Bass), Paul Jones (Rhythm Guitar), Wayne Dorman (Lead Guitar), Freda Marsh (Keys) and Vanessa Knight (Lead Vocals).
They headed to the Absolute Radio building in London to record a cover of Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex on Fire’, a song chosen by other listeners and their version was played out on air today.
Speaking about the project, Dave Berry said “At Absolute Radio we’re the station where ‘real music matters’ and for many listeners, music has been something that they might have had fun creating and playing in their younger years – but due to the steady passage of time and having children, have since had to put on the backburner. But no more! Thanks to The Band of Mum and Dad, these six talented individuals are able to relive their dreams, and what a journey it’s been! Culminating in this amazing performance broadcast today, I couldn’t be prouder of this brilliant group of people. And we hope it shows, it’s never too late to chase your dreams.”
