Bauer Media Audio UK celebrates International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Bauer Media Audio UK stations will be launching a number of special initiatives, including an all-female presenting line-up on both Kerrang! Radio and Cool FM, and all-female, all-day playlist on both Hits Radio and Greatest Hits Radio.

Keeping up the boss woman energy, Planet Rock will feature only female artists across the month in its ‘My Planet Rock’ Sunday programme, while Magic Radio is joined by All Saints’ Nicole Appleton who’ll be kicking off a run of three special shows centred around female themes from the 13th March.

Girls I Rate are taking over KISS Fresh every Friday from 9pm for the whole of March as a celebration of female talent, while Absolute Radio Country has been shining a spotlight on the women of country in a documentary series ‘Women of Country’. Presented by Grammy nominee Ashley McBryde, they are all being released together as a boxset International Women’s Day on the FREE Absolute Radio mobile app.

As part of its continued work to readdress gender inequality in the classical music world; Scala Radio will host a weekend of special programmes leading up to International Women’s Day, before celebrating Inspirational Women in Music all day from 9am to 10pm on Tuesday 8th March 2022.

Playing music from women composers and inspirational women performers across the day and into the evening, trail-blazing musicians and conductors will be invited to introduce their recordings, sharing their memories of performing the music and offering advice for young women seeking a career in music.

Jazz FM meanwhile is marking International Woman’s Day with a month of programmes reflecting the year’s global theme of “Break the Bias” and devoting hours of other output and opportunity to the ongoing conversation of gender equality. On International Women’s Day, contributors including Nikki Yeoh, Carleen Anderson, Judi Jackson, Catherine Russell, Luca Manning will feature, sharing what they believe needs to happen regarding women’s place in the music industry.

Meanwhile, Jazz FM Premium will launch a new 24/7 ad break free station on 8th March for subscribers called “Women of Jazz”.  Fronted by the radio stations female presenting talent of Clare Teal, YolanDa Brown, Helen Mayhew, Sarah Ward, China Moses, Ruth Fisher, Rouhangeze and Lil Koko, the station will feature nothing but music from the rich catalogue of female composers and performers alongside personal selections from those presenters.

Jazz FM Voices Editor Claire Umney who is leading the station’s on-air initiative said: “Throughout the month of March, Jazz FM is looking to all parts of the jazz scene to discuss how we can work together to positively impact the roles of women within the music industry. No one is excluded from this conversation. The responsibility of creating a more equitable environment is not one that solely belongs to women, and we are inviting everyone to listen, contribute, and act alongside us.  I can’t wait for this amazing programming and content to be heard”

Jenny Nelson, Programme Manager for Scala Radio said: “We celebrate women composers and musicians 365 days of the year on Scala Radio, but International Women’s Day gives us the perfect excuse to amplify them even more! I’m delighted to welcome more composers to guest host our series She Scores on Scala Radio, and I can’t wait to hear their musical selections, along with some of the world’s most inspirational women in music across the day on International Women’s Day”.
