Bauer Radio News have celebrated record breaking success at the IRN Awards, taking home half of the awards given out across the night.

The Independent Radio News Awards took place last night, 7 March, at Sky HQ. They aim to celebrate and recognise the talent, hard work and dedication of commercial radio news teams to reward and encourage the very best in radio journalism.

Our Scottish teams were triumphant with West FM picking up News Team of the Year (Under 1m TSA), Bryan Rutherford being named Reporter of the Year (Under 1m TSA), Radio Forth’s Take the Time campaign picking up the Campaigning Journalism Award and Clyde 1 picking up Best Sports Coverage.

Elsewhere, Charlotte Murphy from CFM and Rock FM was named Newsreader of the Year (Under 1m TSA) and Hits Radio Manchester’s Abi Smitton won the incredibly tough Newcomer of the Year category.

Rosanna Austin was runner-up in the larger Reporter of the Year category and Radio City’s Paul Doward was runner-up in the Interview of the Year.

The IRN Gold Award was handed to Andy Marsh, from recently acquired Lincs FM. Andy was a presenter at Viking FM before joining Lincs FM at launch in 1992. He switched from presenting to news in 2001 and is now a senior journalist at the station.

Jim Foulger, Head of News and Sport, England said “We can be very proud of the hard work and dedication we see from all of Bauer’s journalists every day of the year to make our news trusted and relevant to audiences across the UK. This is true whether or not their work gets the recognition of awards judges. But this set of wins is an incredibly significant achievement and is one we can all celebrate.”

This is the biggest success at the awards that Bauer has ever had, which is a huge testament to the hard work and cutting edge news stories that the teams produce.
