Chris McCausland to host new weekend show on Absolute Radio

Comic and Strictly Come Dancing winner to front new Sunday morning show

Absolute Radio has just announced that award-winning comedian, broadcaster and Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland is joining the station with a brand-new show launching Sunday July 5th.

One of the UK’s most distinctive and best-loved comedy voices, Chris will bring his sharp wit, quick-fire storytelling and unmistakable warmth to Absolute Radio, in The Chris McCausland Show, every Sunday from 8 – 11am. He’ll be joined every week by co-host, fellow stand-up and musical comedian, Jon Long.

Speaking on The Dave Berry Breakfast Show this morning, Dave welcomed Chris to the Absolute Radio family and asked if he was looking forward to the early start on a Sunday morning!

Chris said: “I’m not on tour at the minute, so I’m just fancy free and footloose and I’m an early riser anyway, the older I get, the earlier I wake up. So, I’m looking forward to it, to be there as part of people’s Sunday morning, filling their ears with drivel while they’re driving round and trying to avoid doing anything productive. That’s a win for me.”

Chris also discussed his relationship with his new co-host: “Jon is a brilliant comedian, and he’s done my tour support for quite some time, so we’ve spent a lot of time together. I’ve probably spent longer talking to Jon over a six-month block than I have my own wife.

So, we’re used to talking nonsense to each other for some long car journeys and in dressing rooms. And he’s used to putting up with me for long periods of time. I mean, it’s not like he can just leap out of a moving car, is it? So, I’m hoping that in a stationary studio with a door, he doesn’t just walk out.”

The new show will see Chris share his take on the week, celebrate the music he loves, and bring listeners the kind of brilliantly offbeat observations that have made him a favourite on stage, screen and radio.

Paul Sylvester, Absolute Radio Content Director said:

“Chris is a phenomenal talent – naturally funny, hugely relatable and completely original. His personality, humour and love of great music make him a perfect fit for Absolute Radio. We’re delighted to welcome him to the station and know our listeners are going to love spending Sunday mornings with him.”

The move follows a hugely successful period for McCausland, whose landmark Strictly Come Dancing victory won over viewers nationwide. As well as being one of the country’s most respected stand-ups, Chris has become a regular fixture across television, radio and live comedy, known for his quick wit, honesty and natural ability to connect with audiences.

The Chris McCausland Show on Absolute Radio from Sunday July 5th, 8 – 11am.

Catch up on Absolute Radio 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and Classic Rock between 9am-12pm or listen to the podcast of the show –
