How our editors are kicking off Magazines. In the World’s Best Interests.
Every year, readers pick up nearly 100 million copies of Bauer Media’s magazines. Each one is a choice. Someone stands in front of a shelf, or renews a subscription, and decides that this is how they want to spend their time.
Over the coming months, our editors are thanking them for it.
The first wave of Magazines. In the World’s Best Interests, the industry campaign led by the Professional Publishers Association (PPA), gives a whole page in many of our titles to a personal note from the editor. Each one is written in the editor’s own words, for their own readers, thanking them for choosing a printed copy. Notes like these are running across more than 200 titles from nine UK publishers.
Made by people who love them
Every one of those magazines is made by people who care about its subject as much as its readers do: editors, writers, designers and photographers who started out as readers themselves.
For Hakan Simsek, Head of Editorial Design at Bauer Media UK, that’s exactly how it began: “Magazines aren’t just something you read. They’re something you hold, collect, share and remember. I grew up with magazines and posters on my walls, and I know how powerful great design and storytelling can be. It’s what led me to designing magazines. And after more than 30 years, I still love the smell of fresh ink and the feeling of holding something that has been beautifully crafted. That’s why this campaign means so much to me, and I hope we can inspire future generations to understand just how special a well-crafted magazine can be.”
We’ll be sharing more of our editors’ notes over the coming weeks. To follow the campaign, follow Bauer Media and the PPA on LinkedIn.
