Manchester Radio Station, Hits Radio Launches Appeal to Fill Local Foodbanks

Manchester radio station, Hits Radio has launched an appeal to fill the foodbanks across Greater Manchester in an effort to combat children’s hunger during school summer holidays. New figures recently revealed that three million children across the UK are at risk of suffering significant hunger during the school break. Footage of local food banks in Greater Manchester show that stocks have run out, and with 271,700 across the North West living in poverty, that means 1 in 3 children run the risk of going hungry this summer.

Hits Radio Breakfast Show appealed to listeners and businesses to donate goods for the food banks, with a number of large Manchester businesses pledging their support for the campaign.

Hits Radio Breakfast Show presenter Gethin Jones said, “We don’t think any family should go without food over the summer period so we’re appealing to the people of Manchester to come together to fill the foodbanks“.

Dave Vitty added, “It’s estimated a young person can lose half a stone if their parents can’t afford to feed them, and the cost of additional school meals can cost a family an extra £30-£40 a week. Help us take the pressure off“.

Hits Radio Manchester is appealing for donations to be dropped off at the station’s Castle Quay HQ, Manchester, M15 4PR or any school or organisation with over 100 people can register for items to be collected.
