Noel Gallagher Breaks Free

Latest on Oasis, Liam and solo flight all crammed into a pugnacious interview in the new MOJO magazine.

IN THE LATEST ISSUE of MOJO magazine, in UK shops from Tuesday, December 18, Noel Gallagher breaks a 12-month interview moratorium with a hugely entertaining 11-page sound-off.

Inside, the former Oasis generalissimo declares his continued commitment to the more experimental musical approach that resulted in his latest *Who Built The World? album, despite the dismay of some of his more conservative fans.

“I was on tour in South America when I got the reaction through, and I was… shocked,” he tells MOJO’s Pat Gilbert. “I thought, How can you not like this tune?”

In a wide-ranging interview, Gallagher expands on his latest interest – French symbolist poetry – and the challenge of writing songs when you’re *not on cocaine:

“When you’re doing coke, there’s always funny stuff to write about,” he says. “You’re up all night thinking loads of weird shit surrounded by mad people… You’re not going to think any mad shit when you go to bed at 11 o’clock.”

Addressing his recent efforts to shoulder arms in the slanging match kept up by brother Liam throughout 2018, Noel bemoans the global media’s attempts to leverage their estrangement: “I’m like, I haven’t come all the way to Peru to talk about that p***s.”

Having said that, Noel is keen to challenge Liam’s insistence that reforming Oasis would be ‘for the fans’:

“Liam wants to do it for his ego – he never gave a shit about the fans! He wouldn’t have walked off stage 25 times in his career if he gave a shit about the fans.”
