Parkers – the definitive resource for car buyers in the U.K. – has today (20th September) unveiled the winners of the Parkers New Car Awards 2019 in partnership with Absolute Radio and mustard.co.uk, revealing the Volkswagen I.D Neo as winner of brand new category: the People’s Choice Award and the trailblazing Ford Fiesta ST as Car of the Year.
The new People’s Choice Award asked consumers to choose their favourite electric car arriving on the market – placing readers at the heart of the most prevalent topic in the automotive industry today: is the future of cars electric?
Over 8,500 people had their say in the vote choosing from an exciting shortlist of electric/plug-in cars, ranging from a Porsche Taycan to an Audi E-Tron, with readers ultimately deciding upon Volkswagen’s innovative I.D. Neo as the winner. The first family car engineered for plug-in from the ground up has impressed readers with its class-leading range and usability.
The coveted Car of the Year award went to the Ford Fiesta ST: a car that combines playful, pin-sharp handling with strong and accessible performance, five-door practicality, impressive finance deals and low running costs – comfortably convincing Parkers.co.uk experts on their decision this year.
Keith Adams, Parkers.co.uk Editor, said: ‘We’re committed to providing impartial and trusted advice to car buyers and are proud to unveil our winners decided through unrivalled editorial expertise and in-depth user analysis from Parkers.co.uk. What an exciting winner we have with the Ford Fiesta ST for Car of the Year, which is not only brilliant to drive, but also a great-value performance car for those on budget.
‘Parkers is at the forefront of the electric car revolution, and in opening up the People’s Choice award to our users is a way of telling us what consumers want. It doesn’t surprise us that the Volkswagen I.D. Neo won the popularity vote for the most exciting electric car of 2019 – it has the potential to be a true game changer.
Now in its second year, the Parkers New Car Awards 2019 continues to reflect the views of Britain’s car-buying public, with winners decided by the purchasing habits of the website’s 2.8+ million users* actively involved in the buying process – cementing Parker’s position as the most trusted resource for car buyers in the U.K.
The winning cars have been tested rigorously by the Parkers.co.uk team, which judged them on a combination of cost per month, value, quality, excellence and fitness for purpose. The Parkers New Car of the Year 2019 was chosen from the category winners, and is the car the team felt is the most compelling new vehicle consumers can currently buy.
Further categories added this year to reflect the buying habits of Parkers.co.uk users were: Best off-roader and Best tow car, along with invaluable insight into the secondhand market from Parkers Cars for Sale introducing of the Used Car of the Year award.
