Q Awards 2019: Pale Waves, Edwyn Collins and Easy Life Announced to Play Exclusive Post-awards Gig

THE Q AWARDS IN ASSOCIATION WITH ABSOLUTE RADIO TAKE PLACE AT CAMDEN’S ROUNDHOUSE ON 16 OCTOBER
EXCLUSIVE PRE-AWARDS SHOW WITH BIFFY CLYRO TAKES PLACE 15 OCTOBER AT CAMDEN’S ROUNDHOUSE
Q Magazine, the UK’s greatest music magazine, last night unveiled the nominations for the Q Awards 2019 in association with Absolute Radio.
The Q Awards, now in their 29th year, is one of the most prestigious and anticipated nights on the music calendar. Following the massive success of the awards’ new format over the past three years, the Q Awards will again feature a very special, intimate post-awards gig allowing Q Magazine readers and music fans access to the awards alongside the stars themselves. Confirmed acts in the line-up are Pale Waves, Edwyn Collins and Easy Life.
The star-studded ceremony will be followed by sets from two Q Breakthrough nominees, Manchester indie-rock quartet Pale Waves and Leicester electro-pop outfit Easy Life, plus a guest performance from legendary Scottish singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins, who will receive the Q Maverick accolade at this year’s awards.
Heather Baron-Gracie of Pale Waves commented: “When people come to our shows, they’ll get a really exciting, honest band performance with northern spirit, just fucking going for it, playing music that they love and believe in. Over the past year and a half we’ve played so many shows we’ve changed completely and I feel like we keep changing. We’re confident – we actually move onstage now. Before we were like statues and within ourselves. As performers we’ve come a long way and started to believe in ourselves a lot more. Not that we didn’t before, but everything has changed now. At the moment, we’re writing the second album and we’re gonna start recording it next month.”
Edwyn Collins commented: “What can people expect? 40 years of rock’n’roll! The tour has been going great. I’m very ably supported by a brilliant band. People like to hear their favourites, Rip It Up and Falling And Laughing, but we’ve been trying to think about new old ones to play too, playing songs from different eras, new stuff and old stuff combined. It’s gets tricky trying to put the setlist together with so much material to choose from. Everybody’s got an opinion on it, but we can’t have a 45-song setlist!”
The 2019 Q Awards will be hosted by English singer, songwriter and musician Nadine Shah, who will also become the first woman to take on the anchor role. Talking about her first hosting gig, Shah said, “I think a lot of my job is going to be telling people what side of the stage they need to walk off: ‘Oh no, this way, love.’ I’m basically going to be like this oddball Geordie lollipop lady.”
Another first for this year is the exclusive and already sold-out pre-awards gig headlined by Biffy Clyro. It will take place at Camden’s Roundhouse the night before the awards.
The Q Awards, one of the UK’s most highly-regarded awards ceremonies presents seven public-voted awards each year along with a number of highly-coveted merit awards bestowed by Q Magazine on the night.
