Yours magazine aims to plant 400 trees to mark 400th issue
To mark its 400th issue, Yours magazine has pledged to plant a Yours Forest with help from its readers. With the aim of planting four hundred trees in partnership with non-profit community interest organisation Trees for Good Causes (TFGC), the Yours Forest embodies causes and themes that are close to its audience’s hearts: generosity towards charities, protecting the environment and leaving a living legacy.
Each donation of £5 will plant one tree and contribute £2 to TFGC’s chosen charity, which this year is The North Devon Hospice. Readers will be encouraged to donate over the next three issues of Yours, where they will find details of how they can get involved and a ‘Tree-o-meter’; updating them on how many trees have been bought so far.
The Yours Forest will be planted in November at the start of the planting season, at a site in Devon and featured in the magazine. Species will include oak, bird cherry, hawthorn, mountain ash and Guelder Rose, ensuring a flourishing new wildlife habitat and ecosystem in a beautiful part of the UK. To ensure longevity, the trees will be planted with animal protection and supported with a bamboo cane to protect them from weather damage.
Sharon Reid, Editor, Yours said: “We can’t think of a better way to mark our 400th issue than to ask the Yours community to come together to help us create a lasting legacy which will not only enhance the environment but also support people who are affected by a life-limiting illness. We’re excited to see the Yours Forest established and look forward to watching it grow and flourish for many decades to come.”
Joanna Benbow, Director and Co-Founder, TFGC added: “We’re incredibly pleased to work with Yours readers on the Yours Forest initiative. Protecting the environment along with the extra focus on supporting local causes and charities is something that has always been close to my heart. Together, we’re making a difference for future generations.”
Kaushala Ratnayake, Head of Strategy, Bauer Media Publishing said: “At Bauer we’re committed to using the power of our brands and platforms to champion sustainability. This initiative to plant 400 trees for Yours’ 400th issue demonstrates our unique relationships our magazines have with readers and their trust in us to engage them with important cultural issues in relatable ways. Bauer have extended Earth Day into an entire Earth Month and Yours is leading the way with this campaign. We hope the Yours Forest inspires more people to think about how we can all do our bit to achieve a better future for our planet.”
